Expression in a time of political and environmental crisis. Work from artists of all types will be displayed for a one week show at Alchemy Art Center on San Juan Island. Sculpture, paintings, photographs, poetry, music and performance art focusing on social movements and reflections on our changing nation and world will be on display over the course of the week. The show will be open daily from May 4th through May 11th from 2:00 PM, and closing at 7:00 pm.  Special events will run later.

Friday, May 5th is movie night starting at 6:00. The power of protest is captured on film and projected onto the ceiling of the dome.  Bring a pillow to sit on and something to wet your whistle. We will bring the popcorn!

Saturday, May 6th will start with poetry reading at 4:00 with original work being read by the authors and classic works being read by Helen Machin-Smith and Daniel Mayes of Island Stage Left.  Performance art begins at 5:30, get ready for some paint and skin!, and live music beginning at 6:30.  The musical line-up is still in progress with Gabe Maas then Savio Farrell wrapping up the night for us.

Sunday, May 7th at 2:00 there will be a presentation by Bill Moyer, executive director of the Backbone Campaign, on creating dramatic protest art that gets seen by the media. Masters at theatrical protests, Backbone is responsible for the fantastic visuals of the the Kayaktavist protests and the Shell No campaign.

More events are turning up as people jump in. Bring in your work for display  (see the flier) or just come to the show and be inspired.
